Its hardware configuration is currently a dual-core A9 solution commonly used in high-end Android, and Meizu MX still uses a processor from Samsung. Regarding the sound quality of Meizu M9 and MX, many fans are very concerned about this. This is because Meizu’s smartphone has been working hard on audio players. Its built-in music player can support APE, FLAC and other common lossless formats earlier. Support CUE track, manage track content through database information. Although more and more third-party players can support this feature on the Android system, the Meizu player is undoubtedly impressive.

The Meizu MX mobile phone released, the official promotion highlighted the MHL function of the USB interface [Mobile High-Definition Link], that is, the HDMI signal can be transferred through the special adapter through the standard Micro USB interface on the mobile phone, and the HD video device Connected. The MHL specification comes from Silicon Image. Currently, Samsung and Qualcomm's S2 and S3 series chipsets support MHL. At present, it is easy to buy an MHL bridge. This bridge is connected to the mobile phone via Micro USB and can output an HDMI standard signal, but this bridge requires additional power. Regarding the technology of MHL, we will not elaborate on it here today. However, when the Meizu MX was released, there was news that the digital audio signal can be output through MHL and connected through the coaxial interface. We do not seem to see such accessories in the third party. I don't know how Meizu is realized? After all, in the MHL connection, only 5 pins are available. In addition to one ground, one power supply, one for identification control, the other two are used to transmit TMDS encoded video signals. We are not very clear about how the audio signal is transmitted from the Micro USB interface to the HDMI interface. As for how to achieve digital audio coaxial output, or high-quality digital audio output, it is not well understood. In accordance with established practice, we conducted a set of objective tests on the MX's headphone output. The test was also in the form of a professional-grade sound card input, combined with common analysis methods to provide intuitive measurement results. The test uses the Meizu MX mobile phone built-in player. When playing the standard level test file, the output level of the Meizu MX maximum output volume is -9.4dB, but the distortion is very obvious at this time, we try to reduce the volume for testing. The output level is -18.4dB when the two gears are reduced, and the output level is about -21.4dB when the third gear is decreased. However, in order to compensate to 0dB for testing, the +20dB compensation itself will bring noise, so we test it when we reduce the two gears -18.4dB, and the distortion at this time has been significantly reduced compared with the maximum volume.

From the results of RMAA test and frequency scan optical spectrum analysis, Meizu MX and Meizu M9, RMAA test results are close, but from the analysis of optical spectrum, Meizu MX problem is not the same as M9. The output of M9 has less harmonics, but there is obvious impulse noise in one channel, and it is accompanied by a certain noise floor. The intermodulation distortion of Meizu MX is very serious. From the frequency spectrum analysis of frequency scanning, a large amount of noise is distributed in the vicinity of the main signal, and the sound is obviously not clean.

Subjective hearing test:

In the hearing test, we used the Meizu MX player to play lossless format files such as APE and FLAC, which can support CUE tracking and is more convenient to operate. Test headphones use the familiar Edifier H260, Aurvana InEar3, Vsonic GR07 and so on. The contrasted mobile phones include the iPhone 4, HTC G14 and so on.

When paired with small earbuds such as H260 and InEar3 that are easy to drive, the volume of Meizu MX can be reduced by 5-6 than the maximum volume. In some low-level recordings, it is necessary to add 1 more. However, when paired with the Vsonic GR07, the volume needs to be set at 3-4. In lower recordings, it may be necessary to increase 1-2. From our test point of view, Meizu MX's performance in the last two volumes is not good enough. From the sense of hearing, in the last two files, its voice will be obviously dry.

Compared with the iPhone 4, the Meizu MX has a good sound performance. It has a good driving force when it is equipped with small earplugs that are easy to drive, but the resolution of the whole sound is significantly different than that of the iPhone 4. The difference in high frequency is more obvious. . The whole sound is rough, although it is very strong and dynamic, but the mid-high frequency starts to dry up. Although it is not particularly harsh, it is still quite different from the better sound. Compared with the G14 and other mobile phones of the Qualcomm chipset, its sound performance style is slightly different. The SRC problem of the Qualcomm chipset will make the sound a bit confusing, especially the IF dynamics are slightly affected. Meizu MX has no similar trend, but the sound details of both are not good enough. On headphones like GR07 or Inear3, the resolution difference is still very large compared to the iPhone.

Overall, the Meizu MX seems to have a more serious distortion problem than the Meizu M9, and the overall sound performance is slightly worse than the M9. And maybe this is not the best state of Wolfson's Codec, maybe there is room for improvement.
