Gai Shi mobile phone quality music Samsung i9300 evaluation report

The Galaxy SIII i9300 mobile phone was released in May this year. It is Samsung's flagship model and one of the most popular models in smartphones. There are multiple versions of this phone, the difference is that the processor and the important chip are different. Our i9300 uses Samsung's own Exynos 4412 quad-core processor, and this is the third smartphone we used after the Meizu MX [Quad Core Edition] and Lenovo K860, then its What is the sound quality?

Since the Samsung Galaxy S III i9300 was borrowed from a friend, it cannot be disassembled. However, the disassembly of foreign ifixit shows that our version of the i9300 uses an external CODEC chip, model WM1811. This is a chip designed for mobile devices. The official parameters show that its signal-to-noise ratio is 100dB, the sampling rate ranges from 8kHz to 96kHz, and it can support 24-bit dual-channel DAC. Its output power can reach 2W×2 [connected speakers] under Class D, and the total output power of the headphones is 5.3mW.

In accordance with the usual practice, we conducted a set of objective tests on the headphone output of the Samsung i9300 mobile phone. The test is still in the form of professional-grade sound card input, combined with common analysis methods to provide intuitive measurement results. The actual playback level of the i9300 is low, -10dB, and we compensate it to the standard level during the test by the recording device.

For the sake of comparison, we have added several other Samsung processor-based device scores. Compared with several Samsung products with their own processors, the i9300's intermodulation distortion and stereo separation are significantly better than the i9100 [using the Exynos 4210 dual-core processor], and better than the Galaxy S WLAN 4.0 [YP-G1] Video player.

Although the RMAA score looks good, the i9300's spectral test project has minor problems. We can see that it is accompanied by noise near the main signal, and the spectrum is shown as halo, which will have a negative impact on the resolution and level of the sound. This situation has also appeared in some products using Samsung processors such as Galaxy S WLAN 4.0 video player, Meizu MX [dual-core version] mobile phone, but it is not a problem that cannot be solved. The main signal of the Meizu MX [Quad Core Edition] of Exynos 4412 is also relatively clean and the signal quality is better. Therefore, the sound quality of the i9300 has room for improvement.
In the 48KHz frequency sweep, there is no grid-like spectrum that we are familiar with, but there are still small harmonics. We can't judge whether the SRC really avoids it, but it is certain that the SRC has little effect even if it has.
In the hearing test, we used the FLAC lossless format file to test the headset using the innovative Aurvana Live!, the Edifier H500 and the Somic E10, and the contrast phone for the iPhone 5. The i9300's low-frequency sense and intensity are acceptable, but the level is not clear; the mid-frequency mature female voice and the male middle part are full of young female voices, the performance is acceptable, but the image is not real, the sound is loose; the high frequency density is relatively good. But the sound is a bit rough. Overall, the i9300 is inferior to the iPhone 5 in terms of resolution, dynamics, and transients. However, in Android phones, its performance should still be at the upper level.
Music performance is not good, but the Samsung i9300 sounds significantly better than those with poor SRC problems when playing video. Obviously, Samsung has realized the audio defects in Android and has improved it. The improved sound quality is obvious. From this point of view, Samsung is still working hard to improve its products, and there is a certain degree of sincerity in technology.
