Seoul Semiconductor Licenses Technology For Lighting LED From SSLDC

December 24, 2003... Seoul Semiconductor said on Monday that it agreed with Solid State Lighting and Display Center (SSLDC) in University of California to license key technologies for manufacturing light emitting diodes (LED) for illumination.

Based on the agreement, Seoul Semiconductor will start development and production of illumination LED products next year, while having its researchers and engineers participate in developing LED lighting and related technologies at SSLDC by 2007.

LED, which has already been used for lighting of limited spaces, is anticipated to replace incandescent electric lamps by 2007 and fluorescent lamps by 2012.

Recognized as a research organization that has developed advanced technologies in lighting LED segments, including a blue LED wafer, SSLDC has sealed technology collaboration contracts with selected high-tech firms such as Cree of the United States.
