China's LED industry patents are mainly concentrated in packaging

Today, China has become an important middle and low-end LED packaging production base in the world. It is estimated that China's LED industry will reach 100 billion yuan in 2010.

However, the core technologies of the current LED lighting industry are mostly controlled by foreign companies. The upstream core patents are mainly concentrated in the hands of major companies such as Nichia Chemical (Japan), Osram (Germany), Kerry (USA), General Electric (USA), Toyota Synthetic (Japan) and Samsung (Korea), from the United States, Japan and European companies not only occupy most of the market share, but also own 85%-90% of original invention patents in the upstream area of the LED lighting industry chain.

According to the "LED Industry Patent Situation Analysis Report" jointly released by the Guangdong Provincial Intellectual Property Office and the Guangdong Provincial Information Industry Department, Japan’s exclusive patents in the application of LED applications account for 27.9% of global patents, while China only accounts for 9.34%. Relevant surveys show that packaging is the main research and development and application field in China, and the number of patent applications accounts for 39% of the total. Others are application technology, epitaxial technology, chip technology, white light technology and substrate technology. The related patents mainly involve the preparation of LEDs. Methods and equipment.

2009 LED related invention patent

The United States, Japan and Europe: about 20 LED companies, applying for more than 300,000 patents, accounting for 85%-90%.

China: There are about 62 chip companies, and about 30,000 patent applications, less than 10%.

Semiconductor lighting promotion process in developed countries

United States: From 2006 to 2011, $50 million was allocated annually for technology development for the Semiconductor Lighting Program (NGLI). In 2010, 55% of incandescent and fluorescent lamps in the United States will be replaced by semiconductor lamps, saving $35 billion annually.

Japan: The second phase of the semiconductor lighting program was implemented in 2003. It is expected that the luminous efficiency of white LEDs will reach 120lm/w in 2010, and by 2020, it is expected to replace 50% of incandescent lamps and all fluorescent lamps.

Europe: It is planned to use LEDs with a luminous efficiency of 200 lm/w by 2020 and a 20% reduction in energy consumption.
