Recently, eBay's cross-border e-commerce platform eBay has released the “Leading the Future - eBay Emerging Technology Retail Cross-Border E-Commerce Retail Export Industry Report”, which reveals the electronic products that have long been the leader in China’s cross-border e-commerce retail export sales. According to the report, under the spur of emerging technology applications, the global consumer market has created tremendous growth potential, among which the sales of the top five sub-categories such as 3D printing, virtual reality and smart wearable devices are the most popular on the platform.

According to the report, the sales of the following five major sub-categories are most popular on the platform and have unique advantages in different target markets:

First, smart home. Including smart cameras, smart lighting, intelligent security and monitoring equipment, intelligent humidification and temperature control equipment, intelligent central control and remote control devices are the best-selling product categories for Chinese sellers on the eBay platform.

eBay data shows that the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom are the top three destinations for smart home products in China. Australia has become the most potential market for smart home products in China with a year-on-year growth rate of more than 130%; the French, Italian and Spanish markets have followed, and sales have increased by more than 80% year-on-year.

Second, drones. Thanks to factors such as industry concentration, brand first-mover advantages and rapid innovation, China's drone industry is in a leading position in the world, and has become a key product of eBay platform Chinese sellers. According to eBay statistics, the U.S. is still the largest and fastest-growing market for UAV products in China. The sales volume of Chinese UAV sellers in the U.S. market increased by more than 1500% year-on-year, while the European market is also 900%. The growth rate followed. In terms of subdivided categories, handheld drones, underwater drones and multi-functional drones are expected to develop into explosive models.

Third, 3D printing. The application range of 3D printers, such as 3D printers, 3D printer pens, 3D scanners, and 3D printing consumables, is gradually expanding from industry to medical, automotive, space, and education. According to eBay internal statistics, sales of Chinese 3D printing products by sellers have increased by more than 100% year-on-year. The strong demand from industrial manufacturing powers in Germany has not only become the second largest destination market for Chinese sellers after the United States, but it has continued to grow at a high rate of over 100%.

Fourth, virtual reality. The mature VR hardware devices and content are gradually covering the game, film and television, live broadcast, social networking, media, education, and medical fields, while the VR devices sold by Chinese sellers, including VR panoramic cameras and VR headsets, are sold. More than 300% of the year-on-year growth in the eBay platform has ushered in. As the largest market for sales, the United States has an annual growth rate of more than 350%; Canada and Australia followed closely and ranked second and third respectively.

Fifth, smart wearable devices. Chinese sellers' smart wearable devices on the eBay platform include: smart watches, smart glasses, smart headphones, sports bracelets, and more. According to eBay statistics, sales of smart wearable devices by Chinese sellers increased by more than 100% year-on-year. The United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany rank China's top three smart wearable devices market, among which the demand for smart wearable devices in China in the French, Italian and Spanish markets has increased by more than 150% annually, making it the most promising market.

According to eBay, the emerging technological steps that were originally used in the industrial field, such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, and drones, gradually penetrated into the commercial and civilian fields. The diversification of the application scenarios in the consumer market has also accelerated the pace of product replacement. This has led to the upgrading of the entire emerging technology electronics industry. At the same time, the post-90s and the post-00s that have high acceptance and high replacement rate consumption characteristics of this category have gradually become the main force of consumption.
