Bourns, a global leader in electronic components, has announced that PhoenixContact, a top innovator in components, systems, and solutions shaping future applications, will integrate Bourns' FLAT® GDT series—launched in 2017—into its TERMITRABComplete product line. This groundbreaking surge protection device (SPD) is the world's thinnest, achieving a remarkable width of just 3.5mm. The FLAT® GDT technology plays a key role in enabling this ultra-slim design, offering energy efficiency and significant space savings, which has allowed PhoenixContact to drastically reduce the size of its latest SPD products.
The TERMITRABComplete SPD is designed for high-density signal transmission in modern measurement, control, and regulation systems. By combining PhoenixContact’s Input Connection Technology with Bourns’ FLAT® GDT components, the product can handle over 572 MCR signals per meter. It offers a wide range of options, from ultra-thin protection devices to test plugs, signal lines, and remote control modules, making it a flexible solution for various applications. The product also includes features like status indicators and optional remote signal transmission control, providing comprehensive low-voltage system protection.
The FLAT® GDT technology from Bourns brings innovation with its flat package and horizontal circuit design, offering superior overvoltage protection for sensitive, high-density, and space-constrained devices. Compared to traditional 8 mm gas discharge tubes, the FLAT® GDT saves 75% of the volume and allows for twice as many boards in the same space. It delivers strong isolation, high current withstand capability, excellent inrush current rating, low leakage current, and minimal insertion loss, with stable capacitance across different voltage levels.
