LG Display is making a strong push into the OLED lighting sector, positioning it as a key growth driver. The company recently announced the launch of the world's largest OLED lighting production line and introduced its new brand, "Luflex," aimed at capturing market attention with innovative and flexible lighting solutions.
"Luflex" combines the idea of "Lux" — representing light and color — with "flexibility," emphasizing the unique bending and adaptable features of OLED technology. This brand is designed to showcase the distinct advantages of OLED lighting, such as energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and design versatility. LG Display aims to establish "Luflex" as the leading global lighting brand in the future.
The fifth-generation OLED lighting production line at LG Display’s Gumi P5 plant is now fully operational. With dimensions of 1100mm x 1250mm, this line is the largest in the world, significantly outperforming the previous second-generation line, which was only 370mm x 470mm and produced around 4,000 units per month. The new line can produce up to 30 times more, with an initial target of 15,000 units. As production scales up, LG Display expects to enhance product quality while maintaining competitive pricing and accelerating market penetration.
LG Display’s General Manager of OLED Lighting Business, Park Sung-soo, emphasized that the launch of "Luflex" and the new production line is backed by LG’s advanced OLED technology and confidence in the growing market demand.
OLED lighting offers a range of benefits, including low power consumption, minimal heat generation, and eco-friendly performance. Its ultra-thin and lightweight design allows for transparent and bendable applications, giving designers greater freedom and opening up new possibilities for future lighting solutions.
LG Display, primarily a B2B supplier, plans to collaborate with lighting companies, automotive parts manufacturers, and other industry partners to promote OLED lighting in various sectors. Recent innovations have sparked high expectations from the market, and the company sees great potential in expanding its presence in both specialized and general lighting markets.
With its superior design flexibility and eco-conscious approach, LG Display’s OLED lighting has already gained favor among top automotive brands and lighting companies. It is also becoming a popular choice for high-end retail spaces seeking personalized and modern interior designs.
According to IDTechEx, the global OLED lighting market is projected to grow at an average annual rate of over 52% in the next decade, reaching $2.2 billion by 2026. LG Display is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend with its cutting-edge technology and strategic expansion plans.
