LG Display is making a strong push into the OLED lighting sector, positioning it as a key growth driver. Recently, the company announced the launch of the world's largest OLED lighting production line and introduced its new brand, "Luflex," designed to highlight the unique benefits of OLED lighting technology.
"Luflex" combines the concept of "Lux" — representing light and color — with "flexibility," emphasizing the bending and adaptable nature of OLED panels. This branding strategy aims to establish Luflex as a leading name in the global lighting market, effectively communicating the advantages of OLED lighting solutions.
The fifth-generation OLED lighting production line at LG Display’s Gumi P5 plant, which recently began full-scale production, is the largest in the world. Compared to the previous second-generation line (370mm x 470mm), which produced around 4,000 units per month, this new line can produce up to 30 times more. LG Display plans to start with an initial output of 15,000 units, gradually increasing production to meet growing demand. Mass production is expected to enhance product quality while maintaining competitive pricing and accelerating market penetration.
According to Park Sung-soo, General Manager of LG Display’s OLED Lighting Business, the launch of Luflex and the new production line reflects the company’s confidence in its cutting-edge OLED technology and the future potential of the lighting market.
OLED lighting offers numerous advantages, including low power consumption, minimal heat generation, environmental friendliness, and a natural, soft light. Its lightweight, thin design allows for transparency and flexibility, offering unmatched design freedom and long-term value.
LG Display, primarily a B2B supplier of OLED lighting components, is actively seeking partnerships with lighting manufacturers, automotive suppliers, and other industry players to promote its technology. The company has already gained attention for its innovative OLED lighting designs, which are being embraced by top-tier automotive brands and high-end retail spaces for their aesthetic appeal and customization options.
Looking ahead, LG Display aims to lead the market with its vehicle lighting solutions and eventually expand into the broader general lighting market. According to IDTechEx, the global OLED lighting market is projected to grow at an annual rate of over 52% and reach $2.2 billion by 2026. With its advanced technology and strategic vision, LG Display is well-positioned to play a major role in shaping the future of lighting.
