Exploring Foxconn's Longhua Plant to Reveal Sharp's "The Other Side"

In the past few years, you and your family may have enjoyed the visual and audio delights of movies and games with a Sharp TV. Whether it's a big film or a multiplayer game, these moments brought joy to many households. But how many people truly understand the journey that brought such a powerful and high-quality television into the market? Particularly, Sharp, once a pioneer in LCD TVs, was acquired by Foxconn, one of the world’s largest manufacturers, last year. How did Foxconn help Sharp revive? And how do these two giants achieve a perfect synergy? These questions remain intriguing. On October 30, North Guangshen media had the opportunity to visit Sharp’s new office building at Shenzhen Longhua Foxconn. There, they experienced the working environment, living conditions, and technological innovations firsthand, uncovering the "other side" of Foxconn and Sharp. Upon arrival at the Longhua Science and Technology Park, each visitor was given a unique Little Red Riding Hood — an entry pass to this impressive campus. The park, established in 1996, spans 2.3 square kilometers and offers a stark contrast to the traditional factory environments often associated with manufacturing. Designed for the younger generation, Foxconn has invested heavily in top-notch facilities and employee care. The campus features a 24-hour self-service library, an Employee Care Center, a swimming pool, and a staff union where employees can relax and unwind. There is even a commercial street dedicated solely to Foxconn employees, offering shopping, entertainment, and beauty services — a one-stop destination for all needs. At the Foxconn IE Academy, employees can pursue education while earning a salary. Courses range from college-level to doctoral degrees, recognized by the state. This initiative allows workers to advance their careers and improve their skills without sacrificing income. Living conditions at the plant are also impressive. Though dorms accommodate up to eight people, the layout ensures comfort and quality of life. In the factory area, the team witnessed the real power behind Sharp’s latest innovations, including the world’s first consumer-grade 8K TV. The 70-inch panel delivered an incredible "naked eye 3D" experience, enhanced by Sharp’s proprietary "New Huangcai" technology. With competitive pricing, these advanced TVs are now more accessible than ever. Sharp’s other models, from the 9 series down to the 4 series, showcase remarkable craftsmanship and picture quality. All are designed to meet diverse consumer needs, whether for gaming, movies, or music. Foxconn’s new brand, InFocus, made its debut as well. Its LED backlight technology delivers a uniform, bright display, making it a strong contender in the mid-range market. At the South China Testing Center, Sharp TVs undergo rigorous testing, including temperature extremes, vibration, drop tests, and electromagnetic compatibility checks. These "Nine Tortures" ensure every product meets the highest standards before reaching consumers. The testing process involves over 1,000 staff members and follows strict procedures. With labs across the country and global certifications, Sharp guarantees quality and reliability. The new Sharp Building will serve as a future R&D hub, housing teams dedicated to innovation, design, and product development. It represents a new chapter for Sharp under Foxconn’s support. During the tour, Mr. Chen Zhenguo and Mr. Yuan Xuezhi shared insights on Sharp’s growth, noting a 715.6% increase in online sales this year. With strong performance on platforms like Tmall, Sharp is poised to dominate the market. Under Foxconn’s backing, Sharp is redefining home appliances with cutting-edge technology and superior quality. As the entire campus prepares for the next phase, the future looks bright for both companies.
