In an exclusive interview during the groundbreaking ceremony of major projects in the city on March 7, Huang Zhenmin, Executive Deputy General Manager of Fangde Robot, highlighted the company’s breakthrough in developing a 7-axis robot. He explained that this advanced robotic system features seven joints, similar to those in the human arm, allowing it to bend and fold at multiple angles. This design significantly enhances flexibility, improves operational efficiency by up to 30%, and minimizes the risk of damaging workpiece surfaces.
Huang emphasized that such high-end 7-axis robots were previously dominated by foreign manufacturers like ABB and KUKA. However, Fangde's self-developed solution is now capable of fully replacing imported products, offering cost-effective alternatives while maintaining high performance.
To further expand its operations, Fangde Group has decided to invest 100 million yuan to establish a new branch in the Wuhan Development Zone. This facility will provide automation equipment for stamping and welding in the automotive and home appliance industries, with an estimated annual sales volume of 50 million yuan. The company, which listed on the New Third Board in 2016 and is based in Jinan, chose Wuhan due to its vast market potential and strategic location.
The decision to set up in Wuhan was not made lightly. Before finalizing the location, the team visited Shanghai and Chongqing but ultimately found Wuhan more promising. They conducted eight field trips to the Junshan Industrial Park, carefully evaluating factors like transportation and environmental conditions before making their choice.
"The development zone offered us ready-made workshops and office spaces, which allowed us to 'move in and start working' immediately," Huang said. He noted that building a factory from scratch could take another year, and the market couldn’t afford to wait. Once settled, the development zone actively helped connect them with local partners. Currently, the company has established a strategic cooperation with a regional mold manufacturing firm, aiming to advance stamping integration technology together.
Additionally, Huang pointed out that moving operations to Wuhan has significantly reduced the time difference with customers, expanding their reach. With Wuhan's "four-hour high-speed rail circle," the company can better serve its main clients—mostly automotive companies. This improved connectivity makes it easier to coordinate with vehicle manufacturers and their suppliers within the development zone.
Looking ahead, Fangde plans to collaborate with Dongfeng Honda and Shenlong Company over the next three years, aiming to become the leading provider of robot automation equipment in China.
