According to a research report, high-brightness LEDs for LCD TVs that are growing rapidly in the second half of 2010 are likely to be limited by the shortage of key semiconductor materials.
The research report pointed out that the equipment requirements for LED backlight modules for LCD TVs have risen sharply, especially for the production of gallium nitride (GaN) LEDs in organic metal chemical vapor deposition systems (MOCVD), and the organic metal materials Trimethylgallium (TMG) and sapphire wafers have begun to appear similar.
The capacity expansion plan that has already been implemented is expected to alleviate the above-mentioned tight situation in mid-2011, and before that, the average price of high-brightness LED based on GaN will remain at a high water level.
