Across a wide range of electronic applications, STMicroelectronics, a leading global semiconductor supplier, has introduced the industry’s first 800V surface-mount thyristor rectifier (SCR), also known as a one-way thyristor. This new component maintains excellent performance even when operating at the maximum rated temperature of 150°C, allowing engineers to reduce the size of power modules without compromising reliability. It is ideal for use in harsh environments where high performance and durability are essential. The latest addition to the SCR family, the TM8050H-8, is rated at 80A and comes in a high-voltage D3PAK (TO-268-HV) package. This packaging enables mid-power applications between 1–10kW to benefit from surface-mount assembly efficiency while using smaller PCBs and heat sinks, ultimately lowering system costs. The package offers an exceptionally low junction-to-case thermal resistance of just 0.25°C/W, ensuring efficient heat dissipation. Additionally, the creepage distance between the pins and the heat sink is as large as 5.6mm, providing enhanced safety when dealing with high voltages. The TM8050H-8 is also available in a TO-247 package for more flexible design options. As the newest member of STMicroelectronics' SCR product line, the TM8050H-8 brings cutting-edge technology and advanced packaging solutions for power control in automotive and industrial systems. With output currents ranging from 12A to 80A, it is well-suited for developing ultra-compact, high-reliability systems such as automotive voltage regulators, motor starters, soft starters, industrial heaters, rice cooker controllers, solid-state relays (SSR), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and power regulators. The device features very low dynamic resistance (RD) of 5.5 mΩ and a low on-state voltage (VTO) of 0.85V at 150°C. Its maximum leakage current is only 20μA at 800V and 25°C, making it highly efficient across various operating conditions.
