In the past few days, I repaired two Changhong 42638 plasma TVs where the Z board was burned out. One of them had been fixed last year. I remember reading that some technicians suggested replacing both the Z and Y boards together. So I bought three boards: Z, Y, and a buffer board. After replacing everything, I noticed that the new Z board failed during boot-up. I returned it and ended up losing about 50 yuan after negotiation with the seller. Then I told the user that this model is often a "dead screen," and this unit wasn't repaired here. A few days ago, I received another Changhong 42638 plasma TV. The user mentioned that the relay was making noise, which I immediately recognized as a sign of a burned-out board. I took it back to the shop and found that the Z board was indeed damaged. This time, instead of buying from online sellers again, I decided to try repairing the board myself. I knew the Z board was broken, and typically, two RJH30E2 components were usually faulty. Using a magnifying glass, I examined the Z board and noticed several components around the pins looked cracked. I concluded that because plasma TVs have high power consumption and generate more heat than CRT TVs, virtual soldering issues are much more common here. I ordered six RJH30E2s for the TB board and replaced two of them on this unit. Then I removed the Y board and fully repaired the heat sink, several power transistors, inductors, and capacitors around it. I also sprayed WD40 on all flexible cables connected to the logic board to prevent any future corrosion. To be safe, I connected a clamp meter in series with each output from the power board to the Y board. This allowed me to monitor the current and shut it down if it got too high, preventing further damage to the tubes. The unit started normally, with a current draw between 0.4–0.6A. The screen worked fine, and there was even boot music. I was really happy with the result. I quickly took out another Changhong 42738 plasma TV from last year and used the same method to repair it. That meant replacing the two RJH30E2s on the Z board and re-soldering some components on both the Z and Y boards. I did a lot of repairs across multiple areas. When I saw another plasma TV with a burned-out board, I thought, "Why not try my method?" It worked well, so I encourage others to give it a shot.
