According to Axel Wetz-chewald, head of LED applications at Covestro, polycarbonate TC8030 has a thermal conductivity of up to 20W/mK, which provides high thermal conductivity and high design freedom compared to conventional aluminum.
In studying the technical aspects of the carbonated polyester TC8030, Covestro cooperated with the University of Karelia and the injection molder Vesuto, with headquarters in Finland. In the project, the use of a cooling element of carbonic acid polyester compared to a cooling element made of other polymer materials showed that the PC material was very effective in dissipating the heat on the built-in circuit board of the LED lamp.
Vesuto Managing Director Veikko Viitanen said he believes that thermally conductive PC materials will create a new generation of cooling components, because despite its high viscosity, the material can guarantee higher quality by injection molding.
