Hitachi’s loss-making operation in TV business turned to the sale of high-end technology

Tokyo, June 16 According to the “Yomiuri Shimbun” website report, Hitachi, Ltd., Japan made it clear on the 15th that because the TV business has been in a loss-making operation, it is difficult to increase profits by expanding the scale of production, so it will shift to the sale of related technologies. .

Hitachi will shift its focus to the "IPR business," and will sell the highest-end energy-saving high-definition picture technology directly to manufacturers in other emerging countries around the world. At present, Japanese home appliance manufacturers are bothered by the drop in the price of ultra-thin television, the main product. Therefore, this move by Hitachi may have an impact on other manufacturers.

This time, Hitachi will sell technology that precisely adjusts the brightness of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to achieve energy-saving effects. With this technology, Hitachi has reduced the power consumption of LCD TVs by about 30%.

The first sale was targeted by Turkey’s Weishida, the third-ranked company in TV commission production in the world. The contract stipulates that for the company's own branded products using this technology, Weishida will pay the technology usage fees to Hitachi on a lump-sum basis or according to production and sales volume. In addition, Hitachi also plans to sell the technology to emerging manufacturers in China and other places, and strive to obtain billions of yen in gains through the sale of technology in the second half of 2011 in order to achieve profitability in the second half of the television industry in the second half of the year. . It is understood that Hitachi’s TV business currently has a market share of only 4.6% (2010) in Japan, ranking fifth.
