Entering 2014, the price of UHD panels will be more intimate, but like all emerging industries, there are some problems in the UHD panel industry. OLED is also a flexible display technology that can be made into curved panels, which has attracted much attention because it can bring more space for product design and application.

In terms of OLED display technology, there are two main technologies, RGB OLED and WRGB OLED. Among them, the panel pixels of the RGB OLED technology are composed of three primary colors of red, green, and blue, and the WRGB OLED technology adds a white spot on the basis of RGB.

LG Display uses WRGB OLED technology. This technology vertically gathers red, green and blue diodes. The diode emits white light, and the screen information is displayed through the color layer under the TFT base. Since there is no interference color risk, the error rate is reduced, the production efficiency is improved, and the advantage of small pixels can be utilized to create a clearer ultra clear display. To further promote the development of flexible display technology, LG Display has developed Mask technology to improve resolution, Encapsulation technology to achieve minimum curvature, and large attachment technology. Samsung Display uses traditional RGB three-color light technology. It is understood that Samsung Display has certain advantages in the small OLED panel market, but there are still some shortcomings in the core technology incap (preventing moisture penetration) in the large OLED TV market. In addition, in order to consolidate its authority in the field of OLED, Samsung Display expects to increase the production of OLED panels by 33% in 2014.

In order to shorten the gap with foreign companies, China's panel companies have also begun to develop OLED panels that represent advanced display technologies. In November 2013, BOE's 5.5-generation AMOLED production line was put into production, but the products were limited to small OLED panels, and it is not yet possible to produce OLED panels for large-size TVs. According to the reporter, Huaxing Optoelectronics will launch the second 8.5-generation TFT-LCD production line, which will also introduce OLED technology.

AUO and Innolux in Taiwan are clearly behind in OLED panel technology. It is understood that a company in Taiwan is developing OLED panels by hiring Japanese panel companies.

Excessive prices have increased the difficulty of marketing OLED panels. At present, the price of OLED TVs on the market exceeds 1 million yen, resulting in poor market sales.

During the interview, the reporter found that the yield rate is still the biggest problem in the production of OLED panels, and it is also one of the reasons for the high price of OLED panels. Due to the level of technology, the yield of OLED panels is very low, and it is not easy to solve in the short term. “The low yield, low finished product, high price and low market acceptance have become the biggest reasons for restricting the development of OLED panels.” An industry insider who did not want to be named said frankly.

“In 2013, although OLED TV made some progress in improving the yield and process level, it is still far from enough. Because the overall yield is still low, the cost of OLED panels is still high.
