Littelfuse, Inc., a global leader in circuit protection, has introduced a new family of transient suppression diode arrays (SPA Diodes) specifically designed to safeguard PoweredUSB interface DC lines from damaging electrostatic discharge (ESD). These advanced devices offer robust protection for today’s fast-charging and high-speed USB interfaces.

SP11xx Series TVS Diode Array

The SP11xx series of TVS diode arrays leverages Zener diodes built using Littelfuse's proprietary silicon avalanche technology to protect every input/output pin on the interface. This innovative design delivers exceptional surge tolerance and the highest surge density per square millimeter among all Littelfuse TVS products. Additionally, it features very low dynamic resistance across all relevant voltage levels of the PoweredUSB interface.

These devices can safely absorb up to ±30kV of repetitive ESD shocks without compromising performance, while also handling 80A of 8/20μs surge current at minimal clamping voltages. This makes them ideal for protecting sensitive electronics in modern devices such as tablets and smartphones that support fast charging.

The SP11xx series is also suitable for protecting Vbus lines in USB 3.1 Type-C interfaces, which are increasingly used in portable and handheld devices. Beyond this, the product line finds application in a wide range of industries, including consumer electronics, medical devices, automotive systems, test equipment, point-of-sale terminals, and more.
