Graphene has always been known for its excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical strength, but its poor light absorption ability can only absorb about 2.3% of incident light. Researchers at the University of Surrey have greatly improved their absorbance through a method called nanotexturing.

Dr. José Anguita, who led the study, said that graphene with nanotexture can introduce light into the narrow space between its nanotextures, thus increasing the light it absorbs.

Angita said that in general, a layer of graphene can only absorb 2% to 3% of light. But with this new approach, graphene with nanotexture can absorb 95% of incident light, including a wide spectrum from ultraviolet to infrared.

The researchers pointed out that after developing this material, the next step is to apply this material to different technologies that are both existing and under development.
