Global LCD TV shipments are expected to increase by 7% this year

According to a report on May 11, Beijing time, according to Taiwanese media "Digital Times", market research company DisplaySearch predicts that global LCD TV shipments in 2012 will increase by 7% over last year, and LCD TVs account for the total TV shipments. The share will continue to increase, while the share of CRT TVs and plasma TVs will continue to decline.

DisplaySearch predicts that global TV shipments will remain flat for the second consecutive year this year. TV shipments to markets in developed countries, especially Western Europe and Japan, will be 11% lower than last year, while shipments to emerging markets The volume will increase by 8% compared with last year, and the two are basically offset.

Paul Gagnon, head of NPD DisplaySearch ’s North American TV research department, said consumers in developed countries still adhere to a cautious spending attitude, especially in regions with high penetration rates of flat-screen TVs. The price difference is expected to have an important impact on the market, and the price difference between LCD TVs and plasma TVs will continue to shrink.

Jageron added that many brands will adopt a more conservative strategy, focusing on profits rather than sales, so price cuts will not be as fast as in previous years. The rate of price reduction of TV products will have a certain impact on market demand.

Although the overall TV market has remained flat for two consecutive years, the share of LCD TVs will continue to increase, while the share of CRT TVs and plasma TVs will continue to decrease. It is expected that the share of LCD TVs in the total TV market shipments this year will increase from 82.5% last year to more than 88.5%, and is expected to continue to increase to more than 90% next year. In contrast, plasma TVs will only have a share of 5.3% this year.

DisplaySearch predicts that global LCD TV shipments will reach 220 million units in 2012, an increase of 7% from last year. Shipments next year are expected to increase to 241 million units. Plasma TV shipments in 2012 will be 24% lower than last year, only 13.1 million units; it is expected to be reduced to less than 3 million units by 2015.

In addition, the latest flat-panel TV technology, OLED, will appear on large-size TV products for the first time this year, but shipments are few and no more than 50,000 units.

The share of large-size TVs will continue to increase, and the average size of TVs is expected to increase from less than 30 inches 4 years ago to 35 inches in 2012. The number of large-scale production plants that produce LCD TV panels continues to increase, which will lead to a rapid decline in the average price of LCD TVs. For developed countries, this is very important, because it will encourage families who now have flat-screen TVs to upgrade to buy larger-size TVs; and it also lowers the threshold for CRT TV users in emerging markets to buy LCD TVs.
