The 2017 US CEDIA exhibition took place successfully at the San Diego Convention Center. As one of the world's largest and most influential events in the home technology industry, CEDIA showcases cutting-edge products and innovations in smart homes, audiovisual systems, and entertainment integration. This year’s event once again attracted a wide range of exhibitors and visitors from across North America.
Hisense made a strong impression at the show by unveiling its latest laser television model—the 100L8D. This new version has been widely praised as one of the best laser TVs seen so far. The 100L8D is priced at $10,000 and features a unique design that looks more like a short-throw projector than a traditional TV. However, it still functions as a full-fledged television, complete with an over-the-air (OTA) tuner and built-in speakers.

The concept behind the 100L8D is to offer a large-screen experience without the complexity and space constraints of conventional projection systems. It uses an ultra-short-throw lens, allowing the projector to be placed close to the screen—either beneath the zero-bezel black diamond display or next to other connected components. With a rated lifespan of 20,000 hours, the laser source delivers up to 3,000 ANSI lumens of brightness. The DLP engine supports 4K ultra-high resolution and HDR10, ensuring excellent image quality even in well-lit environments.

The projection screen is designed with anti-glare technology and is significantly lighter than a comparable-sized traditional TV. This makes installation much easier. However, due to the reflective surface used for optimal brightness, the viewing angle is somewhat limited compared to LED screens. Still, it offers better performance than many traditional projection systems.

In terms of audio, the 100L8D is equipped with two mid-range drivers and two tweeters, each powered by a 15-watt amplifier. The sound system is developed in collaboration with Harman Kardon, and includes a 60-watt, 8-inch subwoofer for deep bass response. This ensures a rich and immersive audio experience.

Although Hisense hasn't officially announced the release date, the product's appearance at CEDIA suggests it may be available within the next few months.
