The 2017 US CEDIA exhibition recently took place successfully at the San Diego Convention Center, marking one of the world’s largest and most influential events in the home technology industry. This annual show brings together the latest innovations in smart home systems, audiovisual integration, and cutting-edge entertainment solutions. Among the highlights of this year’s event was Hisense’s impressive unveiling of its latest laser television model—the 100L8D. This new version has quickly gained attention as one of the most advanced and visually stunning displays seen at the show.
Priced at $10,000, the 100L8D stands out with its unique design that blends elements of a short-throw projector with traditional TV features. It includes an over-the-air (OTA) tuner and built-in speakers, making it a fully functional television despite its unconventional appearance. The unit is designed to be compact and versatile, allowing placement beneath the ultra-thin, zero-bezel black diamond screen or next to other connected devices.
At the heart of the 100L8D is a powerful laser light source with a rated lifespan of 20,000 hours and a brightness output of up to 3,000 ANSI lumens. The DLP engine delivers 4K ultra-high resolution and supports HDR10, ensuring vivid and clear images even in well-lit environments. This makes the 100L8D not just a visual marvel but also a practical choice for those seeking a large-screen experience without the complexities of traditional front projection setups.
The projection screen is engineered with anti-glare technology and is significantly lighter than a conventional TV of similar size. While this makes installation easier, the viewing angle is slightly limited compared to standard LED TVs. However, it still offers superior performance in terms of brightness and clarity.
In terms of audio, the 100L8D comes equipped with two mid-range drivers and two tweeters, each powered by a 15-watt amplifier. The sound system is developed in collaboration with Harman Kardon and includes a 60-watt, 8-inch subwoofer for deep, rich bass. This ensures a complete multimedia experience, combining high-quality visuals with immersive audio.
Although Hisense has not yet announced an official release date, the 100L8D’s presence at CEDIA suggests that it will likely hit the market within the next few months.
