**Evaluation Introduction**
When the GOOVIS G1 was launched, Xiao Bian reviewed the mobile 3D cinema, the GOOVIS G1, developed by Nader Optics. Unlike the popular VR/AR head-mounted displays on the market, the GOOVIS G1 had a unique product positioning. It combined Sony's custom OLED microdisplays with Nader Optics' optical display technology. While traditional VR/AR focuses on entertainment, the GOOVIS G1 is designed for high-definition theater-class playback. In simple terms, it can simulate an 800-inch screen (equivalent to 20 meters) on a head-mounted display, creating a compact and lightweight device that allows users to enjoy a premium TV experience at home. The high-quality HD playback makes it possible to enjoy immersive 3D content anytime, anywhere.
As the saying goes, innovation is the cornerstone of technological development. Recently, YORK.com received the second-generation mobile 3D cinema, the GOOVIS G2, from Nader Optics. This time, we'll explore whether the G2 represents a simple hardware and software upgrade or a true innovation. Let’s take a closer look.
**Unboxing Accessories**
The GOOVIS G2 I received is an overseas version, differing slightly in packaging from the domestic model, though the main hardware remains the same. The domestic version’s box design is yet to be revealed, but from the foreign version, we can see some differences. For instance, the G1’s box is black with the slogan “ENJOY YOUR VISION,†while the G2 uses a white box with the slogan “Personal Cinema.†This shift shows a more refined market positioning after the success of the first generation.
Inside the box, the GOOVIS G2 glasses and control box are placed, with accessories hidden at the bottom. The packaging is more compact and refined, making it small and elegant. The accessories include a user manual, standard headband, lens cleaning cloth, Micro USB charging cable, and an HDMI conversion cable. Notably, the G2 doesn’t come with a charger, but it can be charged via the Micro USB cable connected to the control box or a mobile power adapter.
**Carrying Case**
The GOOVIS G2 also comes with a new carrying case (sold separately), which is just enough to fit both the glasses and the control box. The outer surface is made of imitation leather, dirt-resistant and soft, while the interior has shockproof padding and a handle. Compared to the G1, the G2’s case features improved details: the control box is secured with a strap to prevent collisions, and there’s a mesh layer inside for storing additional items like a lens cloth, cables, or even a portable hard drive.
**Glasses Design**
The GOOVIS G2 glasses maintain a similar design and material to the G1, using high-quality plastic to keep the weight light. The glasses are small, measuring about the size of a lap, and weigh only 285g without the headband. The split-type suspension system distributes the weight across the forehead support, headband, and temple pads, ensuring comfort during long use. The forehead support sponge can flip up to 145°, offering flexibility for different users. The headband is adjustable with Velcro, allowing easy customization for various head sizes.
**Display and Controls**
In the center, there are two main windows equipped with Sony’s custom OLED microdisplays. The distance between them can be adjusted, supporting a wide range of interpupillary distances (56mm–72mm). Users can also customize lenses for astigmatism, hyperopia, and myopia, making the device accessible to a broader audience. A distance-sensing window automatically turns off the display when the glasses are removed.
On the left side of the glasses body, there’s a 3.5mm audio output for connecting headphones. On the right, an HDMI cable extends to 110 meters, allowing the control box to be placed in a pocket while watching. The bottom of the glasses includes a brightness adjustment button, a 3D playback button, and a breathable array to prevent fogging.
**Control Box**
Compared to the G1, the G2 control box has a more compact and modern design, resembling a smartphone rather than a remote control. The top surface features a touchpad, volume buttons, direction keys, and a power switch. The touchpad supports multi-touch gestures, improving navigation and control. The control box also includes a microphone, hinting at future voice control capabilities.
The control box is equipped with an Octa-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, and 32GB flash memory. It runs on a customized Android 4.4-based G2OS system, supporting app installations and online streaming. The G2 also supports dual-band WiFi (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless connectivity.
**UI and Performance**
The UI is clean and intuitive, with channels such as Media Center, My Apps, App Store, and Settings. It supports DLNA and AirPlay for screen casting, and integrates platforms like CIBN Cool Video and Youku. The G2 can decode 1080P@60fps and 4K@30fps videos, and supports Blu-ray BDMV and BDISO files with subtitles and audio track switching.
**360-Degree Panorama Player**
One of the standout features is the built-in 360-degree panorama player, supported by a six-axis gyroscope. This makes it ideal for real estate, education, and tourism applications, offering an immersive and realistic viewing experience.
**Audio and Viewing Modes**
The G2 offers four sound modes—Standard, Bass Boost, 3D, and 3D Bass Boost—to enhance the audio experience. It also has three viewing modes: Standard, Ultra-Black, and Bright, adjusting the screen brightness for different scenarios.
**Conclusion**
The GOOVIS G2 is not just an incremental upgrade over the G1—it’s a complete reimagining of the mobile 3D cinema concept. With enhanced optics, improved ergonomics, and advanced features like 360-degree panoramic playback and customizable lenses, the G2 delivers a superior viewing experience. While it lacks full 3D Blu-ray support, its versatility, portability, and eye-friendly design make it a compelling choice for anyone seeking a cinematic experience on the go.
