**Evaluation Introduction**
When the GOOVIS G1 was launched, Xiao Bian had already reviewed the mobile 3D cinema GOOVIS G1 from Nader Optics. Unlike the popular VR/AR head-mounted displays on the market, the GOOVIS G1 took a different approach. It combined Sony’s custom OLED microdisplays with Nader Optics’ optical display technology. While traditional VR/AR focuses on entertainment, the GOOVIS G1 is designed for high-definition theater-class playback. In simple terms, it can store the equivalent of a 20-meter (800-inch) large-screen theater in a head-mounted display and create a compact, lightweight design. This allows users to enjoy a flagship TV experience in their living room, with high-quality HD playback that makes mobile 3D viewing enjoyable anytime, anywhere.
As the saying goes, innovation is at the heart of technological development. Recently, YORK.com received the second-generation mobile 3D cinema, the GOOVIS G2, from Nader Optics. Now, we are curious: is the G2 just an incremental upgrade over the G1, or does it bring something truly new? Let’s take a closer look at the evaluation to find out more.
**Unboxing Accessories**
Xiao Bian received the overseas version of the GOOVIS G2. The main hardware remains the same as the domestic version, but the packaging differs slightly. The G1’s box was black with the slogan “ENJOY YOUR VISION,†while the G2 uses a white box with the slogan “Personal Cinema.†This reflects a more refined market positioning based on the first generation's user feedback. The carrying case is not included in the box, and the accessories are hidden at the bottom. The internal design is more compact, making the packaging feel more refined and elegant.
Inside the box, you'll find the GOOVIS G2 glasses and the control box. Below them, there are accessories such as the instruction manual, standard headband, lens cleaning cloth, a Micro USB charging cable, and an HDMI conversion cable (one with an HDMI female end and another with an HDMI male end and a USB interface). The G2 doesn’t come with a charger, but it can be charged via the Micro USB cable connected to the control box or a mobile power adapter. The charging standard is 5V/2A.
The G2 also includes a new carrying case (sold separately), which is just enough to hold both the glasses and the control box. The outer material is imitation leather, dirt-resistant and soft, with a shockproof inner compartment and a handle. The advantage of this case is that it keeps the glasses and control box dust-free and portable during travel. Compared to the G1, the G2's case has improved details, such as a strap to prevent the control box from colliding with the glasses body and a mesh layer inside to hold the lens cloth, charging cable, and other accessories.
**GOOVIS G2 Glasses Body**
The G2 glasses body maintains a similar design and material to the G1, using high-quality plastic to keep the weight light. The overall design is small, with a mainstream smart glasses appearance. Some parts use mirror technology, while others are frosted, making it resistant to fingerprints and keeping a fashionable look. The glasses are small, about the size of a lap, with an official size of 215x185x115mm. Actual testing showed a weight of only 285g, plus the standard headband, totaling 315g. The split-type suspension design distributes the weight across the forehead support sponge, headband, and veneer sponge, reducing pressure on the nose and face, even after long wear.
The forehead support sponge can flip about 145°, requiring a bit of force to move, so it doesn't slide automatically. The large-angle flip accommodates different users. Each side of the head has a slot for the headband, which can be snapped up and down easily. The headband uses Velcro for fixation, offering a wide range of adjustability, suitable even for children. The materials are soft and comfortable, providing a pleasant wearing experience.
The veneer sponges also use Velcro for easy replacement when needed.
**Main Windows and Controls**
In the middle are two main windows using Sony's custom OLED microdisplay. The distance between the two windows can be adjusted, supporting independent adjustment of each eye and customization for astigmatism and high myopia. A distance sensing window is also present, automatically turning off the display when the user removes the glasses.
On the left side of the G2 glasses body is a 3.5mm audio output port, compatible with headphones like Sony and Beats. On the right is an HDMI cable, 110 meters long, allowing the control box to be placed in a pocket while watching movies. The length of the HDMI cable meets most users' needs.
The interpupillary distance can be adjusted from 56mm to 72mm, with scale and damping tips for precise adjustments. The diopter adjustment ranges from 300° to 800°, with individual adjustments for each eye, accurate to +/- 33.3 degrees. The large keycap design allows for blind adjustments. A brightness adjustment button is located on the bottom left, and a 3D playback button on the bottom right, supporting only left-right 3D formats. A breathable array at the bottom helps prevent fogging.
**GOOVIS G2 Control Box**
Compared to the G1 control box, the G2 features a more refined design and hardware upgrades. The G2 control box is slightly larger, with a rounded shape and C-shaped edges. Its design resembles a smartphone rather than a remote control.
The top surface of the G2 control box is made of soft plastic, with a key area including a power switch, volume buttons, direction key, confirmation key, back key, home key, and menu key. The buttons are well-spaced, providing a good tactile feel and preventing accidental presses. The touchpad on the top half supports sliding, clicking, and swiping, solving some issues where apps couldn’t be controlled via buttons. A microphone is located between the power and volume keys, hinting at potential future voice control features.
The side and bottom of the control box are made of metal, featuring a TF card slot (supporting up to 256GB), a Micro USB port, and an HDMI 1.4a output interface. The control box is equipped with an Octa-core ARM Cortex-A7 processor, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 32GB FLASH storage, and runs on the G2OS system, a deeply customized Android 4.4 smart TV OS. It supports 2.4G/5G dual-band WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and has a built-in 5900mAh battery with a 4.5-hour battery life.
**UI Design and Local Decoding**
The UI of the G2 control box is clean and intuitive, with a media center, my application, app store, and system settings. The homepage stays on the media center, integrating all media resources, including online streaming platforms like YouTube and local files via USB/TF/NFS. The system supports SAMBER network neighbors and NFS protocol for smooth playback of large files like Blu-ray discs.
Users can install APKs via USB or TF card, and the built-in app store offers a variety of popular applications. The system settings include three screen color options, four sound modes, and touchpad settings for a personalized experience.
**Local Decoding Performance**
The G2 control box supports 1080P@60fps and 4K@30fps video decoding, handling popular HD formats effectively. It also supports Blu-ray BDMV and BDISO files with subtitles, audio tracks, and aspect ratio switching. However, it only supports left-right 3D, which may disappoint some 3D enthusiasts.
**Online Resources and Features**
The G2 control box comes with the CIBN Cool Video platform, integrated with Youku content. Users can also install apps like Kiwi, Mango TV, and Tencent Video through the app store for more online resources. The G2 also supports DLNA and AirPlay for screen casting, making it easy to stream content from smartphones or tablets.
**Actual Experience**
The G2 glasses are lightweight and comfortable, with a split suspension design that reduces pressure on the head. The lenses provide excellent eye protection, blocking ambient light and preventing glare. The six-axis gyroscope enables 360-degree panoramic viewing, ideal for real estate, education, and tourism applications. The visual quality is sharp and colorful, with a field of view equivalent to an 800-inch screen 20 meters away.
The G2 also features three viewing modes—standard, ultra-black, and bright—for different scenarios, and four sound modes (standard, bass boost, 3D, and 3D bass boost) for enhanced audio experiences.
**Overall Review**
Compared to the G1, the G2 is not just an upgrade—it's a completely new creation. From the glasses to the control box, the G2 brings a fresh user experience with advanced features like a six-axis gyroscope, customizable lenses, and improved audio/video performance. Despite minor shortcomings like limited 3D support, the G2 delivers an immersive, portable movie theater experience that's unmatched by traditional devices. It's a product full of innovation and诚æ„, worth experiencing for anyone seeking high-quality, mobile 3D entertainment.
