The difference between LED and OLED is not just a word

Now LED TVs are border-lit LCDs (liquid crystal displays) that transmit light from a separate wire to the center of the screen through a large number of LEDs distributed around the screen. It thins the screen, but it also brings annoying viewing angle problems.

In contrast, the screen of an OLED (organic light emitting display) is composed of an organic material capable of emitting light when current passes through. Due to the elimination of the backlight, the performance of the OLED screen is superior to other competing products.

Benefits of OLEDs OLED TVs can provide higher density pixels and sharper images, which means that OLED screens can display 3D images completely without sacrificing the resolution of the image like most other TVs. When viewing natural scenery videos on OLED TVs, you can watch the windows instead of watching a glowing dice.

We haven't talked about color yet? OLED displays can artificially create all natural colors. After watching the LCD screen and watching the OLED screen, it feels like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz opens the door to Wonderland for the first time.

The contrast of the OLED screen is almost limitless, so the screen will not appear color aliasing or black spots when watching the Blu-ray Disc "Dark Knight." OLED also overcomes the problem of dynamic ambiguity. You usually see an annoying and scary ghosting on the LCD device when the characters on the screen flash quickly. These advantages alone are enough to make OLED screens the preferred display for games.

We really like the OLED screen. It not only makes the TV lighter and thinner (LG shows a model that is only 55mm thick), it also bends freely. We haven't seen any big screens with this feature yet, but we believe that in the near future you can hang your TV from the ceiling.

What are the disadvantages?

OLED TVs are not yet quoted by manufacturers. You can imagine that it will be about twice the price of LCD HDTVs. Also, their usability is about 10 years after you have to think about replacement. Blue OLEDs have a lifetime of only 14,000 hours (equivalent to 5 hours per day for 8 hours).

You can't use this TV in an outdoor or bright room because too much light can mask or lighten your TV image. Also, long-term exposure to UV light can substantially damage organic pixels and create necrotic spots, causing the regret result to be equivalent to a used car that is no longer valuable.

You may have heard that OLED screens are environmentally friendly products that use less power, but this is not the case. The OLED screen consumes only 40% of the power of the LCD when the image is dark, but when the image has a white background (Windows desktop, web page, Dr. House MD, Dr. M. D.), the power consumption of the OLD screen is normal. Three times the case.

Still not in the mainstream, we have mixed reviews of new OLED TVs. Although they have achieved unmatched picture quality, OLED TVs have not been universally available. Even Sony, who was involved in R&D, only focused on the LCD LED screen before the technology was immature.

If your family wants to share a TV for daily viewing, you will rule out these expensive categories. If you have a room dedicated to watching movies and TV shows, it will not be more than 5 hours a day. OLED TVs are worth considering.
