Osram introduces the smallest 1W infrared LED for cameras and security systems

[High-tech LED News] OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has launched the infrared OSLON SFH 4715S, which is the smallest of the infrared LEDs with optical power greater than 1W. The device measures only 3.75 x 3.75mm2. It can be used in very small lighting fixtures for cameras and security systems.

The device typically provides 1070 mW of optical power at 1A operating current, while the typical thermal resistance is only 6.5 K/W. It incorporates a lens with an emission angle of +-45°, which makes its output power 15% higher than that of lensless components. Its wavelength is 850nm, which is especially compatible with the sensitivity of CMOS and CCD camera sensors. In addition, in the range of 10MHz, the operating current of this infrared LED can be adjusted up to 5A, greatly improving the power.

To achieve a breakthrough device size power ratio, OSRAM combines nano stacking chip technology with a temperature stable OSLON black series package. These highly efficient stacked chips have two PN junctions in series that produce nearly twice the optical power of conventional emitters. The OSLON black series package is based on a metal lead frame, and its thermal expansion is in perfect agreement with the thermal behavior of the board, so good cycle stability can be achieved even in outdoor temperature fluctuations.
