UV inks have been widely used in the printing industry due to their fast curing speed, solvent-free, and powder-free printing. At present, UV curing devices used in the printing industry generally use traditional UV light sources such as high-pressure mercury lamps and metal halide lamps, which not only consume high energy, but also generate unpleasant ozone during use. To this end, in recent years, the industry has developed LED- UV light sources (Figure 1), because of its lower energy consumption and higher curing efficiency, LED-UV curing technology composed of LED-UV inks is becoming a printing company. LED-UV light source

1. Advantages

Compared with the existing UV light source, the advantages of the LED-UV light source are mainly reflected in the following aspects.

(1) The energy consumption is lower, the effective luminous efficiency is high, and the energy consumption can be reduced by 70% to 80%.

(2) No ozone is generated during the curing process, and the LED-UV light source does not generate short-wave ultraviolet light, so ozone is not generated during the curing process, and it is not necessary to install an auxiliary device such as a deodorizing device or an exhaust duct to maintain a clean working environment. This allows LED-UV curing devices to be used in factories with dense surrounding buildings.

(3) The flexibility is higher. The LED-UV light source uses a point light source, which can be combined with the paper size to set the illumination range.

(4) The lamp can be turned on (off) instantly. The traditional UV light source needs to be warmed up for 1 minute before it can be started. After cooling for 4 minutes, it can be turned off. In order to improve work efficiency, many operators usually keep a UV light source, which causes a lot of waste. The LED-UV light source can be turned on instantly during printing, and the work efficiency is greatly improved.

(5) The calorific value is small, the traditional UV light source consumes a large amount of electricity, and the photoelectric conversion efficiency is low. Except that about 20% of the energy is converted into ultraviolet light energy, the rest is converted into heat, so that the surface temperature of the lamp tube can reach up to 800 ° C. The heat is large, which is easy to damage the printing machine itself and the printing material. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of the LED-UV light source is high, and the surface temperature of the lamp tube is only about 60 ° C, which can effectively prevent the printing product from shrinking and deforming due to overheating, thereby achieving high overprint precision.

(6) Long service life, LED-UV light source life can be as high as 20,000 to 30,000 hours, which is more than ten times that of existing high-pressure mercury lamps and metal halide lamps (1500 hours), which can greatly reduce the number of light source replacement.

2, limitations

However, LED-UV sources still have the following limitations.

(1) The irradiation intensity is weak. If the printing speed is too fast, the ink curing is not complete.

(2) It can only emit long-wave ultraviolet light and cannot emit short-wave ultraviolet light, which is not conducive to the curing of UV varnish.

(3) The price of LED-UV light source is high.

(4) The existing printing machine is difficult to reform. This is because the LED-UV light source has a short irradiation distance and must be irradiated with the surface of the printing material at a close distance to ensure good curing of the ink, thus causing inconvenience to the modification of the existing printing machine.
